Build a Profitable Maker Market Business

with A.K.A Tropicalia

Learn from our journey, not a textbook

IMG_4027.jpeg

A.K.A Tropicalia started like many makers do. Grinding at local markets, selling to friends, neighbours, and curious passersby.

With strategy and hard work, we grew into a shared store space, started selling at concept stores, entered the world of museum shops, explored other good (and bad!) markets, got into B2B channels, and opened our flagship store in Rokin, the heart of Amsterdam.

Along the way, we learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to grow without losing our identity. Now, we’re sharing all of those real lessons — with makers ready to take the next step.

This course isn’t theory. It’s how we turned our passion into a sustainable, profitable business, and how you can do the same.

Who this course is for

This course is for makers who:

  • Already sell (or plan to sell) at markets, fairs, pop-ups, or design events

  • Want to learn from a brand that has been there and done it — locally and internationally

  • Feel frustrated with inconsistent sales or unsure which markets to choose

  • Want practical guidance on pricing, branding, and booth setup

  • Are ready to turn their creative work into something that lasts

This course isn’t for people looking for quick hacks or overnight success. It’s for makers ready to put in the work and see real results.

What you’ll learn

From our own experience, we’ll show you how to:

  • Pick the right markets for your brand and say no to the wrong ones

  • Price your products confidently without undervaluing your work

  • Share the story behind the products in a confident way

  • Set up a booth that feels like you and actually sells

  • Explore long-term channels, not just one-off events

  • Decide when to grow, when to pause, and how to stay true to your vision

How the course works

Format: Recorded videos don’t enable experience sharing. Therefore, we will be launching an in-person course in Amsterdam and another online course, live, for those who can’t travel to Amsterdam.

  • Short, focused lessons from our real journey

  • Practical checklists, tools, and frameworks we actually use

  • Q&A to tackle your own challenges

  • Small cohort so you get personal guidance, not generic advice

No fluff. No theory you won’t use. Just what worked for us — and can work for you.

Why learn from us

A.K.A Tropicalia isn’t just a brand, it’s our story:

  • We started in markets and now we have our own flagship store in Amsterdam and international presence in concept stores and museum shops.

  • We’ve grown through trial and error — real mistakes, real wins

  • We know what it’s like to start small and scale without losing who you are

Everything we teach comes from what we’ve lived after combined 18 years of formal education in Business Administration, Design, Art History, Marketing and Digital Marketing,

What you’ll walk away with

By the end, you’ll have:

  • A clear system for choosing and preparing for markets

  • Confidence in pricing and selling your work

  • Booth and presentation strategies that reflect your brand

  • A repeatable approach to growing your business, grounded in experience

  • Clarity on your next steps and the confidence to take them
