We are A.K.A Tropicalia

We create Art that you can wear.

Founded in Amsterdam by artist and creative director Lua, A.K.A Tropicalia emerges at the crossroads of Rio de Janeiro’s vibrant energy and Europe’s contemporary art landscape. The brand produces hand-assembled wearable pieces — jewelry, bags, and objects — conceived as portable sculptures that blur the boundaries between art, design, and fashion.

The practice is defined by its Recycled Acrylic Art series, where discarded materials are transformed into bold chromatic forms. These pieces extend beyond sustainability; they engage the body as an exhibition space, translating visual narratives into everyday encounters.

Lua - Creative Director

Lua’s trajectory spans continents. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, she has collaborated with international artists — from music videos with Anitta and Emis Killa to Fashion Rio design shows. As branding co-director of Svetlana, her work in sustainability was recognized with the Vogue Sustainability “EcoEra” Award (2016). After relocating to Amsterdam, Lua expanded her practice through design and art history, showcasing her work at Dutch Design Week and Rotterdam Art Week. Her pieces are also featured at the museum stores of the Museum of Latin American Art (Los Angeles), the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, and the Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona). She is a member of PIN – the Portuguese Association for Contemporary Jewellery.

Through A.K.A Tropicalia, Lua articulates a visual manifesto — a practice that challenges conventional categories and affirms Latin American aesthetics as a powerful presence within global contemporary art.
